Explore the creative landscape of Scotland’s Far North.
One of the many things that makes the North of Scotland so special is the way the inspirational landscape fuels creativity. It is not surprising that even in the most remote corner you will find a studio, gallery or artwork.
Given the geographic spread, it is not always possible to be aware of or visit all the galleries, studios and artworks in person – now you can visit them virtually.
By clicking on the place markers or browsing through the directory above you can see individual artist’s studios, explore local galleries and discover what public art is on offer north of the Caledonian Canal. If you can’t see your particular favourite, please do let us know.
As a visitor to the Highlands, you can explore studio trails and tours. If your mobile is GPS enabled, it will show you where you are and what to visit in your vicinity.
We are especially looking for information and images of public artworks to populate this unique database further, showing the ecology of contemporary art available in the North.
We hope you enjoy your cultural journey and that you will visit some of these inspiring places in person before long.
Thought contemporary art was just for city-folk? Think again!
