Ellis O’Connor’s Artist Studio and Gallery

Ellis O’Connor’s studio/gallery is on the remote and dramatic Island of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides. The studio is situated at Sponish House just a 5 minute drive from Lochmaddy in the North East part of the Island.

Ellis O’Connor is a visual artist working in a variety of mediums including drawing, painting and printmaking. Ellis aims for her work to engage its viewers in the relationship between human activity and environmental change.
Often working on large scales and building up layers of paint or ink which mimic geomorphic layers, she wishes to confront viewers with sublime imagery that may evoke a change in awareness or sense of individual responsibility for environmental issues.

Ellis uses this visual language to challenge assumptions about the natural environment, to reinterpret the grandeur of natural land forms, and to re-present this visual information laden with power.

The space is part studio, part gallery so come along to see Ellis whilst she works on her new paintings whilst browsing finished work and prints!

OPENING TIMES

Contact in advance. The website is open for business all year round.

DIRECTIONS

If you are driving from Lochmaddy take the right turn directed to Sollas/ Berneray and drive straight on this road for 3 miles until you come to a right turn signposted for Sponish West, there will be a cattle grid on the right, take this and drive on this track (quite bumpy just take it slow) until you reach Sponish House at the end of the road. It should take only about ten minutes on this track! My studio is located inside the House.
