See Orkney tapestry artist Leila Thomson at work in the studio, creating her unique, large, hand-woven tapestries that are inspired by the rhythm of life and landscape of Orkney. Once she has created a full-scale drawing or ‘cartoon’ for the design, she moves to her large, upright loom made from builders’ scaffolding; it is strong and can be adjusted to suit the size of tapestry being woven.
The studio also comprises a shop, stocking a large range of prints, greeting cards and postcards, as well as local tourist information. The gallery opened in 1996 and has two exhibition spaces: one for Leila’s tapestries and the other for paintings by Orkney artist Jo Thomson.
