Ishbel Macdonald studied painting at Glasgow School of Art and established her studio gallery in Balnakeil Craft Village, Durness, Sutherland in 1988. Originally called “The Printmakers’ Gallery”, Ishbel’s work at first focused on her own limited-edition screenprints. Over the years, she has returned increasingly to her first love of painting and has renamed the gallery “Ishbel Macdonald – Paintings and Prints”. Her themes are the landscape of northwest Sutherland, particularly the sea and shoreline and with a special interest in birds. Her work is in water-based and mixed media, often incorporating printmaking techniques.
