Nicola’s gallery is a small gallery in the far north of Scotland. It is situated in Balnakeil Craft Village in Durness. Nicola’s paintings were featured on ‘midsummer live’ last year on BBC 2 Scotland.
Balnakeil Craft Village was set up in the 1960’s in abandoned MOD buildings. These were built in the 1950’s as part of an early warning station during the cold war. It is now a thriving tourist destination with restaurants, artists and crafts people open for business from the spring until the beginning of winter.
The Gallery is owned and run by professional artists Nicola Poole and Ludo van Muysen. It shows oils, acrylics and mixed media work by Nicola and woodturning by Ludo. The landscape of this north-west corner of Scotland is stunningly beautiful, Nicola loves painting the changing moods and light as it moves across the hills and abundant water.
Ludo’s woodturning is often large and chunky, allowing the wood to dictate the shape, and often leaving some of the bark attached.
