Sky Lined Forms by Edinburgh-based artist Donald Urquhart is one of a number of works commissioned to mark the redevelopment and expansion of Eden Court in 2008.
The new wing is ventilated by wind and this work draws elements of the environment into the structure by cladding the ventililation towers in three materials as a series of vertical sections. Mirrored sections reflect the current sky and weather; blue is a perfect Scottish summer sky; and the black ties the buildings to the ground, echoing the granite-clad walls.
At night, the face of the front tower is illuminated by light reflected from a shallow mirrored roof-top pool – a visual reflection of the wind.
